We recently took delivery of our very first SNO Trailers Recon, and we couldn’t be more excited about this compact, lightweight off-grid trailer!

SNO Trailers has built a reputation for crafting some incredible trailers, from the top-of-the-line Alpine to various models they’ve designed with Remington, like the R-20. And while the Recon is the smallest in the lineup, that doesn’t mean it can’t hang with the big boys…

In fact, the Recon might be the best SNO Trailers option for getting way off-grid. Why? Well, check out the video above to get a complete tour from Brody, then read on to find out more about this awesome trailer!

The SNO Trailers Recon Can Be Towed by an ATV

First and foremost, what makes the SNO Trailers Recon a great off-grid trailer is that it can be towed by a side-by-side, or better still, an ATV. That’s a good thing if you want to get far away from civilization!

The capabilities of ATVs and UTVs to navigate difficult terrain are unmatched. And with the combination of the small form factor of an ATV and the compact design of the Recon, you can get to far more off-grid locations. Think about it - your ATV can make quick work of situations when old Jeep trails become too narrow or rough for your truck. And since the Recon is purpose-built for off-road travel, it won’t have any trouble keeping up with your ATV. More on that in a bit.

At just 600 pounds dry, it’s no wonder the Recon can be towed by an ATV or UTV. Yet, despite its low weight, it has a 2,000-pound load capacity. While some ATVs can’t tow nearly that much weight, larger, more powerful models can come dang close. Many UTVs can tow that much weight without issue.

So, the moral of the story is this - getting off-grid requires a certain type of setup. You need something compact and lightweight yet outfitted with the off-road amenities necessary to navigate difficult terrain. With an ATV or UTV pulling the SNO Trailers Recon, you have a setup that can get you virtually anywhere you want to go.

Off-Road Amenities Abound in This Off-Grid Trailer

Now the question is this: What features does the Recon have that allow for off-road travel?

First and foremost, the model we have on the lot comes with a capable and reliable Timbren suspension paired with 17-inch Method wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. This particular unit also has a Max Coupler hitch that articulates as you navigate over bumps and dips in the trail, and prevents the hitch from binding up (the 40-degree departure angle helps, too).

This model has the added benefit of an optional spare tire carrier on the back with a matching spare wheel and tire - a must for off-road travel where tire damage sometimes necessitates changing a flat in the wilderness. In front is an oversized off-road jack mounted to the trailer’s beefy tongue.

The Recon’s steel frame is powder-coated for added durability, and with SNO Trailers’ proprietary anti-rust coating, you get an added layer of protection against rust. With options like Maxtrax recovery boards and mounts, you can outfit the Recon with just about everything you need to travel off-road with confidence.

There’s Space to Bring Everything You Need With the SNO Trailers Recon

At 10 feet long, 58 inches wide, and about 5’9” tall, it’s safe to say the SNO Trailers Recon is a compact trailer. But don’t let its small size fool you - there is an abundance of storage space on this trailer so you can bring everything you need for an extended off-grid stay in the backcountry.

For example, up front is a nose box that houses the trailer’s electrical components - a 100ah lithium battery, battery charger, and NOCO shore power plug. The battery is micro-sized to save space and weight. That means there’s added space inside the nose compartment for other small items you might need that are quick and easy to access.

The passenger side of the trailer has a handy kitchen slide-out, complete with a collapsible sink and a Dometic faucet. Hidden inside the slide-out is a water jug for the kitchen sink. There is storage inside the slide-out, too, where you can keep a few kitchen necessities within easy reach, making this trailer a great option for traditional camping and overlanding, too

This side storage area isn’t just for the galley slide-out, though. The inside of the door has Molle panels for adding accessories. There’s also a sizable storage area above the slide-out where you can keep gear, dry foods, or whatever else you might need to bring along on your off-grid journey. There’s an access door with Molle panels on the driver’s side, too, giving you even easier access to gear in this part of the trailer.

Moving to the back of the trailer, you’ll find a huge compartment with two slides inside. The left-hand slide is designed for your gear, while the larger right-hand slide is purpose-built for a fridge/freezer or cooler of your choice. In fact, this side of the compartment is already wired for a fridge, so it’s a simple matter of putting your fridge on the slide, plugging it in, and you’re ready to rock!

Of course, this trailer also comes with a premium roof rack that’s elevated above the top of the trailer. This gives you a large space where you can store weatherproof gear or boxes without sacrificing the ability to add a rooftop tent, awning, shower, or another rack-mounted accessory (this particular model comes with a Roam rooftop tent and an awning, too).

Since there are mounts already on the trailer for the spare tire and Rotopax, you get even more interior space for your gear that would otherwise be taken up by these items. It’s smart, functional, and flexible design features like this that allow the Recon to handle up to 2,000 pounds of gear.

The Price is Right for Off-Grid Travel

The SNO Trailers Recon model pictured in this article is priced at $19,140. It’s outfitted with a number of options, though. The base model starts at less than $13,000!

When it comes to adventuring off-grid, you certainly get what you pay for. While there might be cheaper options out there, they don’t come with the number of amenities you’ll find in a trailer like this. Moreover, it’s hard to find a trailer that’s as well-designed and built as the Recon, so the price of admission is definitely worth it.

Better still, you can customize your SNO Trailers Recon with all sorts of affordable options, from an inverter and solar panels to an outdoor shower to an upgraded roof rack with Prinsu accessory mounts. You can even choose from various colors and wraps (though we like the black camo wrap the best!).
